  • Nicola Waugh

    Nicola Waugh is an independent producer, film programmer and communications expert based in Arcata, CA and Calgary, Canada. She has worked with film festivals and artist-run centres across Canada, including the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers, Calgary Cinematheque, Regent Park Film Festival and Reel Asian Film Festival. Her first feature film, EVENTS TRANSPIRING BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER A HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL GAME was released widely in festivals in 2020, and is now streaming in the US and Canada. Her recent documentary projects include BORROWED FROM NATURE, and ORPHANED for CBC Television. She is currently developing an experimental documentary about plant communication funded by the Canada Council for the Arts.

  • Can Buyukberber

    Can Buyukberber is a visual artist working on immersive audiovisual experiences blurring boundaries between physical and digital spaces. His practice consists of experiments with various media such as virtual/augmented reality, projection mapping, geodesic domes, large-scale displays and digital fabrication. Driven by an interdisciplinary thinking and curiosity which extends to art, design and science, Buyukberber’s work often focuses on human perception, exploring new methods for non-linear narratives, geometrical order, synergetics and emergent forms.

    With a background in Physics and Design, has received his Master's Degree in Art & Technology from San Francisco Art Institute as a Fulbright Scholar, has been selected to Autodesk Pier 9 and Adobe AR Artist Residencies. His audiovisual works have been exhibited in museums, galleries and media art festivals around the world, including ZKM, Karlsruhe; Ars Electronica, Linz; SAT, Montreal; Sonar D+, Barcelona; California Academy of Sciences, Exploratorium and Dolby Gallery in San Francisco; Akbank Sanat, Istanbul; Art Futura, Rome; MUTEK.JP, Tokyo; BFI Film Festival, London; ZeroSpace, New York City; collaborations with musical artists such as Grammy-Award winning rock band Tool, Shigeto and Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.

  • Michelle Hernandez

    Michelle Hernandez is a Wiyot and Latina filmmaker. She grew up on the Table Bluff Reservation, where she found her love for filmmaking. She has a Masters in Film and Electronic Media at American University in Washington, D.C. and a B.A. at Humboldt State in both Film and Native American Studies. Much of her work focuses on the importance of culture, traditions, and identity, as well as dealing with Indigenous subjects. With her work, she gives voice to stories that aren’t often told. She is the co-founder of Sugarbush Hill Productions, which she currently runs with her partner, Richie Wenzler. Her latest works include Douk and The Bartow Project.
